Young Pokémon fans in Japan will have something exciting to look forward to as a new Pokémon variety show features a Pikachu-shaped bus.
Pokemon has always been quite popular in Japan. The franchise’s popularity has led to many opportunities, such as specialty merchandise, a popular YouTube channel that includes ASMR videos with creatures like Piplup, and even a special camping theme. Pokemon exploratory adventure. These examples are the only beginning of the series’ scope, as Game Freak’s popular IP announced a new variety show featuring a Pikachu bus.
the Pokemon series has had variety shows in Japan for over a decade. These variety shows feature different Japanese talent exhibiting and reacting to different aspects of the series. These usually range from major events coming to the Pokemon anime for even announcements about upcoming games.
Variety shows based on the creature-catcher RPG usually get “renewed” with a new premise from time to time, and the newest variety show has been announced. It’s called “Poke Doko: Pokemon in Doko Iku?!” (“Where are you going with Pokemon?!”) and features a Pikachu-shaped bus as part of its travel and share theme Pokemon with fans across Japan.
The show is set to feature Ryogo Matsumaru, a surprise guest actress who has yet to be revealed, and Shoko Nakagawa, who has starred in these shows for around 16 years. Nakagawa was also the voice of the Spiky-Eared Pichu and Keldeo in the Pokemon films and short films. The unique Pichu would have been inspired by her directly by the game developers.
Definitely the most interesting thing about the show is the Pikachu-themed bus that ties into the theme. The show consists of a tour across the country, but it is unclear if the bus is just a set or if it will be properly used on the streets of Japan. The bus is also not named after Pikachu, but rather a pun on the Japanese phrase “Doko ikou ka?” (“Where are we going?”) and the Japanese word for car, mixing them together to create “Dokoikokaa”.
So far, whether the bus is properly used or just a prop, the official website says another series regular, a comedian known as Abareru, will be the driver while Shoko Nakagawa sails. What exactly the show will entail will have to be seen, but the Japanese Pokemon fans can look forward to the show starting April 3.
